Born of a rather desperate connection to life, Matthew was his mother's pride and joy. She took him to the Hand to be trained, but not to be devoured by the cult's dark magics. Ripping him from the rituals that would have bound him, body and soul, she stole him to America and perished so that her son may life free. He was taken in by Matthew Murdock for a short time, until his father came for him. Growing to love his son in a way his heart hadn't functioned in so many years, Frank Castle retired to prey on the criminal element from the inside, while his son carried the family badge of honor and vigilante justice.
When Jack Murdock was in need, Matthew Castle answered the call. The rules were simple: he would train Jack until Jack thought he was ready and that would be the end of it. Rule never worked out; after a vicious attack by the Hand, Matt died and was reborn again in Jack's arms, leaving him bereft of the Hand's influence on his mind and soul. Where this will take him next may show him sides of himself he never knew existed.
